Hello everybody, An architect friend who already died I was working with (handhold Cycas) from 2007 to 2008 m'aivait said how it will setup Cycas 3.8 Here are some details of configurations: SYMBOLIC LINK- Can make a symbolic link "cycas" in / usr / bin / on / usr/local/bin/cycas3 - It (experience) is much more productive to replace the files created in ~ / CYCAS3 /..../ by symlinks to the directories / usr/local/cycas3 / ... For example, ln-s / usr/local/cycas3/ttf / home/serviteur/CYCAS3/ttf ln-s / usr/local/cycas3/dat/dia / home/serviteur/CYCAS3/dia ls -al de ~/CYCAS3 : [flotus@josephine CYCAS3]$ ls -al total 28 drwxrwxr-x 2 flotus flotus 4096 nov 20 2007 ./ drwxr-xr-x 106 flotus 500 8192 mai 28 08:24 ../ -rw-r--r-- 1 flotus 500 76 déc 2 2005 cycas.key
lrwxrwxrwx 1 flotus flotus 21 nov 20 2007 dat -> /usr/local/cycas3/dat/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 flotus 500 26 fév 4 2007 draw -> /usr/local/cycas3/dat/draw/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 flotus 500 27 fév 4 2007 fonts -> /usr/local/cycas3/dat/fonts/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 flotus 500 27 fév 4 2007 prefs -> /usr/local/cycas3/dat/prefs/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 flotus 500 29 fév 4 2007 special -> /usr/local/cycas3/dat/special/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 flotus 500 25 fév 4 2007 sym -> /usr/local/cycas3/dat/sym/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 flotus 500 25 fév 4 2007 sym_public -> /usr/local/cycas3/dat/sym/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 flotus 500 25 fév 4 2007 tex -> /usr/local/cycas3/dat/tex/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 flotus 500 25 fév 4 2007 tmp -> /usr/local/cycas3/dat/tmp/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 flotus flotus 21 nov 20 2007 ttf -> /usr/local/cycas3/ttf/ RIGHTS-It is better to .../cycas3 / and directories to 666 (rw-rw-rights-rw, owner root) and replace the subdirectory ~ / CYCAS3 /.... by symlinks to / usr/local/cycas3 /.... TEXA single directory for textures / tex: / usr/local/cycas3/dat/tex / KEY TO THE LICENSEThe file must be cycas.key both in / home / user AND in / usr/local/cycas3 PREFERENCESFrench file I would like that to each one as it will give me his point of view (comments) from the configuration and preferences on Cycas. 'Tis true. I have working directories for each of my clients in which I store all kinds of data related to the contract. I create a "drawings" directory (folder) and that's where all of Cycas' files go, as well as any DXF and what not files that I import. I create a symbolic link from the ~/Cycas/ directory in my home directory to that directory for easy access. Never had any trouble.

Hi Blackhawke
How you got your preferences set ... cycas39 for, because the one I gave was for version 3.8; I mean it: your materials are in what directory? Rights? Can you give me if possible a screen capture of symlinks in your / home/.../CYCAS3

I disagree with the config you propose because doesn't takes care of the system environment. It's always a bad practice to put the third 6 (666 is the devil's mumber :-) it expose your system to security lacks. Secondary linking all in the installation dir (if a program is structured as cycas) in ordinary conditions should create problems in upgrade, ie if an upgrade overwrites the core dirs confident that users has their local data in their homes.
Looking at the config you propose the problem you are trying to solve seems to be "having several users using the same config, textures, ecc.." In that case it's better to put the link to a dir out of the standard installation pattern ie in /srv/file-server giving 775 to the dir and 664 to the files, eventually creating a specific group if not all the system users are allowed, stated that each instance of the program runs with user permissions that starts it.
If the problem is "having all the projects it's different config, textures, ecc..(with the same name but different one form each)" the solution (but as I've thought it I've never used it) is the one coming from blackhawke, copying all them in tha project dir and linking it there, saving a specific .pref for the project. Remember to load it again when you open the file as the drawing itself seems not to remember it's prefs file.

hi Luca
Thank you for your contribution. As I said earlier, this configuration I was offered three years ago by a deceased architect friend and I have tried it often but I still have problems. By posting on the forum this configuration is to test its reliability. How you configure your preferences for high productivity?

My system is very plain, I have mounted /srv in it's own partition, this is very important! never use a single partition, keep data off OS files, it also has the advantage that when you make upgrades you can even format the system partition leaving data in their nutshell.
Under that I've a dir named fileserver (also shared with samba) where goes everything that makes sense as data. Inside that, like blackhawke, there is a dir for the current projects that is linked in the prefs as drawing dir.
To keep it simple I've left all the cycas files in my home as default, adding there something for blocks and textures. The only "problem" are the materials, when making new walls or textures, I add a code for the project in the name of all new adding so I can cut them away and archive with the project when it ends. (not so often I put hands on again on renders) (and not so often I make complete 3d views so...)
The advantage is to keep everything simple to backup, to upgrade, to restart if something goes wrong with the system. ciao luca

Hello Luca
The major problem I have with it Cycas materials (new wall textures ..) I have about 70 textures alpha channel I would create the materials (billboard) Cycas directly without going to the post production with the Gimp; How to manage such materials these 70 (billboard) if I want to use them in all my projects? With a partition / srv dedicate this does he not have problems when you're updating with more systems installed? What is the size of your partition / srv?

well if I understand what you mean maybe you have to create each one, exceptionally they should have the same parameters, I should keep them in the def dir. about /srv, the fact that it is in a separate partition (or better that data is in a separate partition) is the way for not having problems, even with multi os, you can format all partition but that one. Just remember in which one you have it or that will be the problem :-) that could also be done for user homes but it's really too much having few or one only user on the system. I can't remember now how much it is on my desktop but is the biggest ciao luca

I have not yet grasped the fact of creating a separate partition / srv may be more details or explanation with screenshot Celal help me and most Luca you never gave me the size of your partition / srv. If you got links that can help me give them to me. "I create a symbolic link from the ~ / Cycas / directory in my home directory to That directory for easy-access. Never Had Any Trouble. "
Blackhawke, can you be more explicit with details or screenshot (project settings, ...), ls-al command gives me the symbolic links that you did.
'In / srv / file-server Giving To The 775 To The 664 and dir files, Eventually Specific Creating a group if not all users are Allowed The System, EACH instance of Stated That The Program That Runs With user permissions starts it. " Is it possible to give me the commands that you did in the console or terminal?
If The problem is "All the projects HAVING it's different config, textures, ecc .. (With The Same name but different one form each)" the solution (goal I've got it Thought I've never used it) Is The One Coming from Blackhawk, copying em all in tha project and linking dir It There, saving was specific. pref pour la project.
Does the solution offer with blackhawk how can there be multiple. Pref with different materials according to different projects?
I add a''code for The Project In the Name of all new social Adding I Can Cut Them Away With The project archive and When It Breaks. (Not So Often I put hands on it again renders) (and Not So Often I make complete 3D views so ...)''
Luca can you be more explicit with details or screenshot (project settings, ls-al ...), because I do not quite understand what you say.
NB: I work with Ubuntu Ultimate Edition 2.7 is based on 10.04 LTS

Hello,
When I do a simple installation without default symlink;
All my textures are in: / home/serviteur/CYCAS3/tex / All my materials are in / home/serviteur/CYCAS3/dia/mat / Symbols: / home/serviteur/CYCAS3/sym / My drawings are in: / home / servant / CAD / DXF export / home / servant / the rest in / home/serviteur/CYCAS3/dia /
By creating a new material and then save, the next step of Cycas only creates the material is available to fill the other materials used, I must remove the final materials created.
Blackhawke Have you created symbolic links like this example: ln-s / opt/cycas39/dat ... ..... / home /*****/ CYCAS3 / *
If possible give me details
Luca
After creating a separate partition / srv Have you created symbolic links like this example: ln-s / srv/file-serve/cycas3 ... ..... / home /*****/ CYCAS3 / *
Rights
dir: sudo chmod 775 / srv / file-server / File: sudo chmod 664 / srv / file-serve /*****
If possible give me details
Best Regards.
