Before a while (month or so) the povray rendering became white-grey half transparent and as i have no insight in the mechanisms cannot tell where this came from,
cycas or povray.

I´m running Ubuntu 9.04

Has anyone seen this and could set it right?

Also the ´save image´ function from the rendering popup win saves nothing
and there is no error message.

Thank you

PS: How can i include images to forum messages?

What it looks like see:

Hallo, the problem can be KDE. I had a problem like it with KDE 4.1.3 on OpenSUSE 11.0 and at end I donwgraded to KDE 3.5. You can see this question in this forum.

Fine,
> Hallo, the problem can be KDE

Cannot say, but your tip led to fiddling with desktop settings and got it working by disabling all visual effects in gnome´s desktop.
Maybe behind the scenes it has to do with KDE/Gnone miscollaboration.

A big thanks,  Smiley

Stil, the image writing (.png) will not work though.  Sad

image saving problem solved:
> the image writing (.png) will not work though.

the povray package in ubuntu 9.04 (and possibly elsewhere)
puts rigorous restrictions on path read/write permissions
in file ´/etc//povray/3.6/povray.conf´ in section [Permitted Paths].

I have added there a line like:

read+write* = %HOME%/apps/cycas/img

and saving works again.
Sorry for making noise about things problems not originating on cycas.

Just to notify that I found out that povray´s window renders half transparent on any kind of compositing window manager.

So it is not a kde4 problem... if you have openbox and use xcompmgr to use compositing on the window manager.. you´ll have the half transparent window... I have kde4.3.1 on mandriva 2009.1 and it gives me no problem with cycas if no compositing is working on...

In the end...if you use compiz, compiz-fusion, metacity composite, xfwm composite, xcompmgr, kwin4 composite... you´ll have half transparent povray window...

But I still don´t know if this concerns only to povray + composite or if it concerns some video cards + composite + povray...

Hello,

Try to launch POV-Ray as follows (in the render settings dialogue):
povray -visual DirectColor.

hi ,

It seems that the beta version of povray 3.7 does not have this problem of transparency?

I downloaded version 3.7.0.beta.34 POV-Ray but I can not have Complilation
this is what the console:

servant Jesus @: ~ $ cd / usr/local/src/povray-3.7.0.beta.34

servant Jesus @: / usr/local/src/povray-3.7.0.beta.34 $. / configure

Welcome to the POV-Ray 3.7.0.beta.34 configure script.

This script will prepare the source distribution of POV-Ray for Unix 3.7.0.beta.34

for compilation on this machine. Compiling the program yourself means

that the POV-Ray Team (tm) is not responsible for supporting this

version, no matter if it is the unmodified official POV-Ray source code

or a customized version. Refer to the POV-Ray source license conditions

that come with this package.

In order to start setup, you have to Provide a valid contact

Information that will be included in the executable and displayed

whenever POV-Ray (or a modified version of it) is started. In case

you intend to distribute this binary, this information will help users

to contact the appropriate maintainers. To start configuring POV-Ray

Type in the following command with your own contact information:

. / configure COMPILED_BY = "your name <EMAIL@ADDRESS>"

Please consult the INSTALL file for additional configuration and

installation instructions.

Has anybody ever been able to compile? I need your help ....

Thank you in advance for your answers.

serviteur,

It is really simple, since povray 3.7 is a beta software the developers don´t want the responsability of any bug until the final version therefore the force you to say and compile it with your name as you were signing it as responsable for any further problem.

So to compile it your need to use instead of:

./configure
make
make install

Use:

./configure COMPILED_BY="Serviteur"
make
make install

___

Now remember that this beta software keeps warning on every run that it is a beta and it has a license that will expire in n days. So I have never saw if it realy stops working after n days but I think that set the license expiration on the date of the final release so you don´t keep using beta and force you to upgrade to the final release
