Hi;

Where can I download Cycas 4 to test because I have some suggestions and comments to make?

GOD BLESS YOU!

Just because my curious mind can´t stand it anymore, can we have an update on how things are shaking with Cycas 4, and maybe something to drool over as far as new/improved features and toys and such?

Please... ?  Grin

Hello,

I am happy that a new version of cycas is in progress. It is a very interesting software.

Out of curiosity, could you tell me why you have chosen QT4 (no QT4.5 ?) vs GTK+ ?

According to the new things, I am particularly waiting for importing raster images (jpg, bmp, png,...).

I can´t use cycas very well yet. For instance, to draw a 10 cms line, I draw a line that I cut with two parallels spaced out by 10 cms ...  Is there a simple solution to draw a line with a precise length ?

Thanks

@blackhawke... my feelings exactly. i think this may need an email directly to wolfgang...

@kaerick, if your line is parallel to x direction, one procedure would be:

line > -X > choose start point with mouse > left click to confirm > right arrow key > enter length of line > enter > enter to confirm

same for y direction except use up or down arrow key.

if the line is not parallel to x or y:

line > -A > enter angle of line > select start point > left click to confirm > enter line length > confirm

hope that makes sense!

Hi there,
we are very busy with lots of stuff but Cycas 4 is not forgotten.

Many thanks to all, there already is very valuable feedback in this thread.

Qt4 has the big advantage of being real cross platform. Compared to GTK it makes the task of maintaining different platform so much easier. We came to the decision after Nokia changed Qt4.5 licensing to include lgpl. For a "small" commercial project like Cycas this change was essential. (We simply can not afford fully commercial Qt licenses.)

However, the "Qt4" announcement stands for the API and license, not a particular version. So you can expect Cycas4 to support recent Qt4.x versions.

To give you some more insight here is a snapshot of a Cycas4 preview. It´s a single binary compiled under Ubuntu 9.10 32bit. Not sure where else it may work.

You can load and save drawings and use some of the new interface tweaks (like snap preview, free rotation using RMB...). It gives a good feeling to the Qt stuff.

Hello everybody,

@Steve : thanks a lot for your information. I can draw faster now. I can use AutoCAD and ArchiCAD very well.  I find Cycas really light and I would like to learn more about it.  I wonder if  Cycas can easily open DXF files (2D) of 60 Mo.

@Wolfgang : I´ve tested Cycas4 preview under my Ubuntu 9.10 32bit. It´s very nice ! I hope   that the background colour will stay like in the former versions. It is restful for eyes.

I can help you for a french translation if you want. When I will work in my own society (maybe soon), I will be glad to buy Cycas pro. My computer will be under Ubuntu 64bit. Cycas is a very good software for me.

Thanks

@kaerick, no problem importing dxf files. 2d or 3d. cycas 3.8 imports older version of dxf (2000 i think) but you can use EveryDWG from design alliance to convert versions if you need.

@wolfgang

thanks for the preview of cycas 4. i can see some really nice features emerging:

:)the free rotation and perspective view during free rotation
     :)the dockable toolbars
     :)the snapping and snap preview
:)the pop-up dialog box for data entry on pressing right arrow
     :)left click to confirm

great!

Hello,

@Steve : I saw that Cycas can import dxf files but I wonder for 65Mo. I have a very important file that I use every day (my library) and it is 65Mo.

On my computer (under ubuntu 9.10) with my dxf files (65Mo) :

VariCAD : 1 minute / Drawing with errors (Except problem of scale)

Qcad : 10 minutes / Drawing without errors (Except problem of scale)

@wolfgang : could we choose to delete X-/Y- axis ? I like to draw on a sheet without rule nor axis (as handmade with Rotring Cheesy ).

Thanks

do you know what version the dxf is? maybe it needs to be converted...cycas imports dxf 2000 ascii version. also, i see cycas basic only imports single layer dxf...this could be a problem if your dxf is multilayered

Hello,

@steve : I have tried with dxf 2000 ascii and dxf R12 ascii, with one layer. I think that the errors come from splines. Only splines does not display... regrettably Sad

I´m happy to know the good news, I´ll try to virtualize an ubuntu 9.1 asap for running the snapshot, diddn´t work out of the box on my opensuse, I´ll give some feedback.

Since you are hands on, I´ll collect some hints I would like to share for some features that could be useful for building pro.

furthermore let me know for any help needed.

ciao
