first of all hats off for this great software!
close to the overdue change to linux i have looked for a proper a.e.c. or cad in general for some time past. the annoyance about the big fish (in windows) and their shortcomings has turned simply into head-shaking over the years. so it is a small salvation to see and feel something light and smart again.
since four months am ´playing´ with cycas, doing a reality-check just by reproducing the ongoing project that is on my ´real´ drawing board. conclusion: it works almost like the big ones ...almost. the differences are much less if one is not used to mindless drag-and-crop from libraries. why does it work? it is the plain simplicity. and not getting lost in styles and their managers, attributes in somewhere hidden subdirectories, properties, settings, etc. pp. so i hope that cycas 4 will keep that simplicity (unfortunately the not visible image of the cycas 4 preview in the forum is mere anticipation).
some annotations (over ten years of acad habits might shine through here).
handling: > as far as read he right-click will replace the looong way to the Âok button in the menus. excellent. > the selecting menu is quite an obstacle. it could be simplified by the mode of click to select a object or opening a window to select a range. or: clicking twice for deselecting an object. or: opening the window from left to right to select and from right to left to deselect a range. > another idea could be a united ÂlineÂ- and ÂcircleÂ-menu and the ÂeditÂ-menu closer to them or even something permanent because always something has to be copied nowadays. > everything else is just a question of getting used to it..
commands: > it would be nice to divide an element in equal parts by points (as guides). > bringing objects to fore- or background is very helpful when objects overlap. at the moment a room inscription over a hatch is my personal nightmare. > the 3d modelling could be extended once.
questions on cycas 4: > at the moment there a some inaccuracies with hidden line views (the angles in isometric views are not precise) and then there is all the trouble with sections, boolean operations, cameras in closed spaces, etc. as far as understood it is just one big complex. will that be solved? > will it be possible to upgrade from 3.90 to 4.0? ...in case that am becoming impatient
best regards mig

hi mig, nice to have another appreciator of cycas!
for architectural linux users, cycas is our only hope
you have given nice clear descriptions...thanks
all your points are very valid. you didn´t mention "more keyboard shortcuts"!
quote: as far as read he right-click will replace the looong way to the Âok button in the menus. excellent.
not everyone agrees on this...for now, you can use tab for OK in most cases. also enter in some cases
cycas 3 is aging now. even though many cycas features are better than the "big fish" will ever have, the survival hangs on version 4...

I see the download link for 3.9 is now gone from the home page. Does that mean 4.0 is close, maybe? Maybe? Maybe? Huh? Huh? Huh?
Okay, I´ll shut up now. bigrazz.gif

Hello everybody,
Here are some of functions (...) proposals for version 4 and Cycas future. This could increase the audience and make advantage of Cycas complete and more competitive in the world of 3D (Architecture. ..).
RENDERING
That would be fantastic if the rendering could be used Povray photos of their choice in the background that always have the default sky.
IMPORT / EXPORT
- In the import / export format added Wawefront (. Obj) This is probably the best format, because it keeps out the UV coordinates
- In the import / export format added. DWG See how to increase the update of the license pro.
MODELING
Tool / Function for Text in 3D
ANIMATION
Function to animate a camera to get an architectural visualization.
Billboarding / TEXTURE (the technique of pasting a texture alpha channel on a vertical plane)
Function to add people, vegetation .... Creates texture with an alpha mask in Gimp, Photoshop or another.

FRENCH
Salut a tous,
Cordialement

Hey... Any word on when we're going to see the new version, even a beta version of the new version we registered users can play with? Oh... And anybody know where our absentee hosts/developers went? They're not answering emails and/or messages here or anything. Disappearing support is kinda scary when you're working on big money projects for clients.

That's kind of a scary commentary in and of itself.
